History:
In the summer of 2011 the diving team Ocean Discovery encountered a large wreck east of Öland at a depth of 75 metres. The wreck was eventually identified as the Mars. In 2012 and 2013, a large team of divers and scientists conducted marine archaeological documentation using high-tech equipment and modern diving techniques. A large number of photographs and film material have been produced. Some parts of the ship’s timber, a gun mounting and two guns were also recovered.

The exhibition focuses on 16th century naval history – it includes the wreck of the Ringaren which sank just outside of Loftahammar sometime during the 16th century, as well as the wreck of the Elefanten, a warship which belonged to the same fleet as the Mars. Here you can see the salvaged items as well as video and photo materials.
